Sustainable Environmental Development
Wildlife and nature play a huge part in Home Farm’s ethos. In 2018 we entered a higher tier countryside stewardship scheme working with Natural England to improve and provide a good environment for wild birds, mammals and insects.
48 acres have been developed into 24-metre-wide plots in various locations to provide pollen, nectar and seed-producing plants for all-year-round food and safe habitat. The results over the first year exhibit a huge increase in wild birds, brown hares and hedgehogs along with numerous butterflies and insects.
In parallel with the management of our 700 acres of predominantly oak woodland and wetland habitats, we will continue to embrace these government initiatives addressing soil and carbon issues through planting more hedgerows and trees. These not only produce corridors and shelter for wildlife but also play a huge part in the sequestration of atmospheric carbon.
